Up until a few years ago, I played primarily in hard rock bands (see below), but I've always been a singer/songwriter at heart. I wear my heart on my sleeve, I don't take the little things for granted, and I believe in honesty and being true to yourself. These qualities are inherent in my music, my goal always to connect with those who give my music a chance.
In 2009 I made the decision to step up my solo career and began recording my first professional album with Rich Mattson up at his Sparta Sound studio. The result was "All But My Soul", a collection of songs spanning nearly 7 years and a wide variety of life experiences. Release in January 2010, reviews of the album were very complimentary, and I was very pleased and proud of the accomplishment. Having taken that first big step towards my musical independance, I was eager to further what I'd started.
By the end of 2010, I was ready to get started on another record. My wife and I were expecting our second child in March of the following year, and with time being tight as it was already, I decided to build up my home studio and take on the challenges of doing it myself. The challenges were bigger than expected, recording took me nearly 8 months to complete, working with a very limited schedule. The hard work was worth it, and my new album "The Overhead Low" came out better than I'd hoped. The songs on this album are not themed together, by any means, but I think the central idea around the album is hope. No matter how much life gets you down, as long as there is hope, there is opportunity for better days.
I'm not exactly sure what I want from my music career, I just know I love to make music, and that is what I will continue to do. Hopefully, whatever path that leads me down, success follows. Thank you for your continued support, cheers! |
ROCK BRIGADE, 2008 - PRESENT
OTHER MEMBERS INCLUDE: Aaron Ashley, Matt Le Bard, Jeremy Craig, Ben Craig
The SuperTacks were at an impasse. We decided we wanted to branch out into the cover scene, focusing on 80's era music, but with the addition of Matt, a name change was in order. Things quickly came in line and before we knew it we were opening for Skid Row. Currently we have an album's worth of original tunes we'd like to get recorded. |

Once Bone Appetit had dissolved, it was about a year before I was back on the stage with a new band. It started with myself and drummer Ben Craig, then it was a no-brainer to add Bone guitarist Aaron Ashley and Ben's brother JC to the mix. We didn't have any one direction that we wanted to go with it, which was both our greatest strength and weakness. While the songs were great, it didn't translate live with flip-flopping singers and styles. After 2 albums we decided to go in a different direction. |

Probably the most recognizable and locally famous band I've been in, people still call me by my stage name "Richie Gunns" to this day. Our blend of loud, in your face, rock songs combined with the energetic, rowdy, and always unpredictable live shows are now local legend. For years Bone was the definition of "party". Our absurd songs were fun and catchy, and the guys in the band were always happy to have a drink with anyone and everyone. Our run in the spotlight included only one studio album, "Love, Lust, and Rock n' Roll", a tour to Reno, and a hell of a lot of shows around the area. Every show was a memorable one, especially our night at the 7th Entry in Minneapolis, where we packed the place wall to wall in 100° heat. We were unpolished, sloppy, and not afraid to speak our minds. Eventually though, members moved, and with each move the band pulled apart a little more until it's demise. Every couple of years though we all come together and reclaim our former glory, even if just for a little bit. |
